Bushcraft Autumn 1

We have looked at basic fire starting using materials that the wood has provided us. The students have studied the 3 elements needed to sustain fire

1. Fuel

2. Heat

3. Oxygen

The students have looked at different types of tinder and kindling to start their fires.

Now we have started to look at some basic cooking techniques on open fires. Today we made Ancient Roman Damper bread and then made Bannock Bread- a historical Scottish and Irish style of cooking bread on hot stones. From that the pupils became creative and made pizza, cheesy garlic bread and different flat breads.

A great start to our outdoor programme is this. Safety is paramount and all students have displayed a high level of maturity, understanding and readiness to learn more.
